Return to Africa

Return to Africa

Get ready for the return to southern Africa! After XOVERLAND's last adventure, Clay and a group of friends couldn’t resist returning to rediscover the magic of exploration. Equipped with three epic trucks—a 2022 Toyota Tundra, 2023 Toyota Sequoia, and 2020 Toyota Tacoma—they dive deep into the wild beauty of southern Africa. Together, they reignite the thrill of overlanding and embrace new challenges with the same childlike wonder that first fueled their passion.

“You don’t leave Africa; it goes with you.

Africa is a powerful place that tells incredible stories. Our Return to Africa Special is one of our most heartfelt and raw series, and I believe it will motivate individuals, friends, and families to hop in their trucks, go for a long drive, and connect with each other.”

  • 1. The Past

Sometimes the best way forward is to look backwards.

Our return to Southern Africa was an easy decision. With our 2023 Tundra, 2020 Tacoma, and 2023 Sequoia still in country, all we need to do is come up with the team for this journey and pick a route.

Our plan in this first section is to trav...

  • 2. This Here, Right Now

Slowing down and being present doesn't come easily to us. However, this trip may force us out of our comfort zone by making us sit still.

With a winding and remote route planned through Kruger National Park ahead of us, we are ready to attempt to check some wildlife sightings off of our lists......

  • 3. Read Your Gauges

Our time in Kruger National Park has been perfect... nearly.

There are only a couple final animals that have eluded us over the last two trips, the big cats of Africa. Lions and cheetahs are not a common sight in these regions and we can't help but to want to see these majestic beasts in person....

  • 4. Right Place, Wrong Time

Will our 2,000 mile detour to the Kalahari be worth it?

When looking at the map, we can't help but feel a bit apprehensive about our decision to drive across the continent to see one animal. However, the journey to the Kalahari Desert has been worth it in itself.

A new country, new faces, and ...

  • 5. All For One

Even in some of the most beautiful places you still need to keep your guard up.

A long night for one of the team members has the rest of the us questioning what our next steps are. Do we risk it? Is this safe? We have to make a decision quickly before things get worse.

A little bit of clarity g...

  • 6. False Summit

A trip like this is once in a lifetime.

We came here looking for friendship, incredible experiences, and resolve on what our purpose in this life is. Did we find it?

We hope to see you again soon, Africa.
